Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am going to be 40 this year and am starting to have trouble with my blood pressure . What would cause this? I don t think I am over weight ( I weigh 120 pounds) and I am 5ft 5inches tall. I went to the doctor and my blood pressure was 185 over 124. I mean I don t smoke nor do I live with a smoker. I don t eat a lot of fast food and I live a pretty active life.
Some factors contribute to it such as stress. When the cause is unknown, you have what's called essential or primary hypertension. Factors that may lead to high blood pressure in the remaining 5–10 percent of cases of which there is no know cause, include:
Kidney abnormality
A structural abnormality of the aorta (the large blood vessel leaving the heart) existing since birth
Narrowing of certain arteries
Did the doctor tell you what he suspects the reason is for your high blood pressure? Are you under a lot of stress? Eat a lot of salt?
