Are There Any Side Effects Of Taking Prednisolone?

hi im on 40 mg daily of prednisolone for suspected lupus and have had a lot of side effects including sleeplessness weight gain and over the last day iv had a rather painfull outbreak of herpes which iv had for years but never been this bad was wondering ig the prednisolone could be the cause thank you in advance for your answer jan

Hello dear,
welcome to HCM.
I have read your query and understood your concern.

Prednisolone if appropriately indicated is a very good drug for treating a number of conditions. Definitely it is associated with some side effects like weight gain, insomnia, precipitation of infection etc as you told.
But if your doctor must have started it for controlling acute episode of lupus.
I usually advise my patients to walk for 20 minutes at least while on pred.
Also hydroxychloroquine if no contraindications is given for lupus.

you may discuss it with your treating doctor.
I am sure he/she will agree with my opinion.
