Are Taking Epilepsy Medications Safe During Pregnancy?
hi my wife is 16 weeks pregnent but she is having epilipsy problem my docter advice her to take biopreg f 5mg twice a day,torvate 200 four times a day cloba 5 mg once a day could u please advic me is it safe for her to consume. and does it has any side effect on the baby growth.

Hi, I have gone through your question. Torvate is valproic acid and it has a risk of causing neural tube defects and heart defects in the fetus, if taken around 6-10 weeks of pregnancy.
Clobazam does not have major adverse effects on the foetus.
Biopreg F contains folic acid and it is given to prevent the occurrence of neural tube defects in the fetus.
Epileptics at 16 weeks pregnancy do not cause any effect on fetus, as by then all fetal organs are formed.
I suggest you to get a level 2 detailed anomaly ultrasound at 18-20 weeks pregnancy to look for fetal anomalies, if present.
