Are Sore Breasts, Nausea And Tiredness Indicative Of Pregnancy?

Hi I had the coil taken out in January and had a period 2 weeks ago that lasted 5 days. Then on Friday was surprised to have more bleeding which strangely only lasted 2 days if that then stopped totally. I have sore breasts, regular , nausea & feel exhausted. Wondering if I could be pregnant now worrying the bleeding could have been a miscarriage!??

Hallow Dear,

By and large, pregnancy is characterised by cessation of menstruation. You had your menstruation 2 weeks ago; hence it is very unlikely that you are pregnant.

About midcycle, (14 days before next expected menses to be precise), the egg is released (ovulation). In some women, may be regularly or may be occasionally, there is some amount of little bleeding, some times associated with pain in flanks on the day and may be around the day of ovulation. This is known as Mittelschmerz. This needs no treatment. If the pain is unbearable, it can be managed by some painkiller. However, you do not seem to have any pain.

You have not mentioned which coil you had; however considering the symptoms you are having, I believe it could be Progesterone impregnated coil. After its removal, since the ovulation has started naturally, the natural production of progesterone would cause you some nausea, breast discomfort and due to this, feeling of tiredness. Progesterone is known to cause gastro-intestinal upsets. Breast soreness is due to the water retention due to Progesterone during the second half on the cycle (after ovulation). If it is bothering you substantially, salt restriction for few days may give you some relief.

Madam, had it been miscarriage, all the symptoms of pregnancy would have appeared before it and would have vanished after abortion. Moreover, during abortion bleeding, you would have passed white clots. There no mention of such passage of tissue in your history. So I would not diagnose you as a case of abortion. Moreover, there is no mention of any missing period before this episode of bleeding after removal of coil.

I hope this clarifies your dilemma.
