Are Skin Rash, Swollen Lips And Itchy Eyes Side Effects Of Doxycycline?

Hi doctor, I ve been taking Doxycycline for almost 2.5 months with 50 mg twice a day. I almost finish the last capsule from the 5th bottle, one more repeat to go. I found I got skin reaction, rash, swollen red lips and very itchy eyes. I m thinking to stop taking it (not even finishing the last capsule) but because of it s antibiotic I m not sure whether it is okay to not finish the whole bottle/ the whole course. Please advise.

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The allergic reaction may be related to the antibiotic or due to another cause particularly since you have been using the medication for 2 1/2 months already.

In most cases of allergic drug reaction, it would have occurred before this time.

You may want to determine if you used any thing else that may have provoked an allergic response- examine your diet carefully.

If there are no other changes then you can consider discontinuing the medication but you should inform your doctor.

I hope this helps
