Are Shortness Of Breath And Recurring Pain In Chest Indicative Of Pneumothorax?

Wondering if son might have pneumothorax.....plays hockey and I m nurse so could be over reacting... Slight shortness of breath, pain comes and goes and has been same for about 3 days,, stabbing/ sharp in nature, no obvious bruising , is tender to palpation at mid right rib cage ....no stethoscope at home so can t auscultation breath sounds

I think you are getting over predictive. Why don't you just think that if he has pneumothorax he will have fever as well. I don't think that getting thinking into all these will make something better. Get a chest x-ray done and find out if it is really such what you are thinking. if it's pneumothorax get treated by taking a proper advice by a physician. It can also be something such that your son is a sports player and must have had some sort of impact injury but hitting himself with other player as in hockey it's common. anyways, take and x-ray and the doubt cleared. mean time try taking steam, hot water fermentation and slow deep breathing exercises to get some relief.
