I was wandering how to know the difference between a bruised or a broken knuckle (boxers fracture) and my symptoms are: Pain with movement Knuckle locking/popping sensation but no sound Minimal bruising, which isn t visable without proper inspection And swelling. Thanks for your help

Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like osteoarthritis , rheumatoid arthritis , gout , ankylosing spondylitis or joint dislocation . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order x-ray or CT scan or physical examination to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may give splint and fix the joint . Doctor may also drain the swelling or prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory . For now apply ice pack and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .
