Are Nausea And Vomiting Associated With The Usage Of Tramadol?

Hi, Just got a prescription for tramadol. I have moderate to severe back pain that came on acutely 5 days ago. My doctor put me on predisone on a 6 day cycle for inflammation. I get stomach sick very easily from any drug that has codeine in it. So my doctor recommended this drug for pain management during the evening when the pain is worse. I see one of the side effects is nausea and vomiting. How common is that?

Thanks for asking at healthcare magic.I read your question and I understand your concern.
The incidence of nausea and vomiting with Tramadol is 15% .However in my experience it is more with intravenous or intramuscular administration than oral. Hence we used to give dimenhydrinate along with Tramadol in intravenous or intramuscular route .
I would suggest you to take domperidone along with Tramadol if you ever experienced nausea or vomiting. The best alternative would be diclofenac and misoprostol combination as it is good anti inflammatory as well as stomach protective due to presence of misoprostol.
