Are Medications Advisable For Elevated Cholesterol And Triglyceride Levels?

Hi Doctor, Three months ago my Triglycerides level was 592 and Serum Cholesterol was 190. Doctor Suggested me medicine but I have only focused on diet and 30 minutes walk/day. On a followup checkup yesterday Triglycerides level comes down to 342 and Serum Cholesterol is 167 now. Should I continue with diet control and Walk or go for medication?? Please advise. Saleem

Hello dear user!
I have gone through your query and understood your concerns!
Thank you for sharing them on healthcaremagic.
From the results you have written above in your query looks that your triglycerides level has been very high and it still remains high. Of course, having a strict diet and physical activity is very good for your health and helps a lot in your lipids levels but i'm afraid it can't be done all by diet only. I would suggest you to take medication for your triglycerides such as fenofibrate with a consultation with a doctor of course. Your cholesterol level is ok.
I don't see if you have done any blood sugar test, but if you haven't please get a test done because generally high lipids go together with high blood sugar.
Consult an endocrinologist if the level is high to get an optimal treatment.
I hope this answer was helpful to you!
Please kindly rate it as helpful and write a short review about your experience with me! I would appreciate that a lot.
Thank you and best regards!
