Are Low Grade Fever And Cough In A Child A Cause For Concern?

Hello, my 5 year started having a low fever 99-101 yesterday and still has it today. She is in good spirits, drinks water and eats some fruit. She had a cough before the fever started and still coughs occasionally. Wondering if she should see a doctor tomorrow if she still has the fever.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your child have symptoms of low grade fever and cough which is due to respiratory tract infection due to poor immunity of body. Yes you should be concerned about 101 temperature as its not a low grade actually. Your symptom of fever off and on is because your immunity is lower down because of infection. Antibiotics will not give much relief to you as yours symptoms are more like viral infection. You should take paracetamol to prevent fever and combination of decongestants and multivitamin tablet. Your symptoms will resolve in 5-7 days. Avoid touching eyes, nose again and again. If your symptoms keeps on persisting the visit physician and get vaccination done.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
