Are Heaviness In Legs, Painful Hip Joints Caused By Metoprolol Taken To Reduce BP, Heartbeat?

I began taking Metoprolol about a month ago to lower my blood pressure and slow down my heartbeat. It has been over 100 basically all of my adult life, I am 72. In this last month my legs have slowly gotten a heavy feeling, my hip joints are painful and just recently have trouble climbing stairs. Is it likely these symptoms are from this medication?

Hi,
Metoprolol can cause tiredness and this may be causing the heaviness in your legs. The pain in your hips is unlikely to be related to metoprolol. This could be a sign of arthritis.
I suggest you discuss with your doctor a possible change in your medication as there are many alternatives for blood pressure management.
