Are Delusional Thoughts Related To Schizophrenia?

hi doc i was diagnosed with depression and ocd 12 years ago and initially took fludac. After a year into Fludac my psychiatrist got me off the drug. But since I didnt go back to him after that I had a relapse. So I had to take olanzapine. I have been on olanzapine for the past ten years which caused a lot of weight gain. But a year ago my psychiatrist said I have become delusional also. The former
has now reduced olanzapine by a small amount and put me on Sulpitac. My question to you is : have I become schizophrenic as well ? Because arent delusional thoughts a sign of schizophrenia and isnt sulpitac used to treat schizophrenia ?

Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

Both Olanzapine and Sulpitac are anti-psychotic medication. Delusion is a symptom of a psychosis, but Schizophrenia is not the only psychotic disorder. So, delusions can be a part of other psychotic disorders like Severe depression with psychosis, acute and transient psychotic disorders, etc.

I would suggest that you discuss and clarify about your diagnosis with your psychiatrist in order to get a clearer picture. I would also advise you to continue the anti-psychotics as advised by your psychiatrist as they would have been started only for a specific reason.

Wish you all the best.
