I am hypothyroid patient from last 4 years. Female and age 33 having one son. I am on thyroxine/eltroxine dosage of 4 tablets of 50 mcg. From last two months i am noticing dark patches around my eye area. Is it caused by thyroid or thyroxine? What should i do to get rid of them

Endocrinologist 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for asking on HCM. I carefully read your concern.

Levothyroxine is an hormone that is produced by the thyroid gland and when the function of gland is lowered it is recommended to take it by mouth, so is an hormone that our body needs to function properly.

If you are taking the right dose of levothyroxine than you are not expected to have side effects. If the dose is lower or higher than you are expected to have signs and symptoms of hypo or hyperthyroidism respectively. Dark patches around the eye area are neither a sign of hypo nor of hyperthyroidism.

Hope the information is useful.

Kind regards,
Dr.M.Guni
