Gentlemen,
I am 50 years old now and I am looking into having a colonoscopy, to screen for colon cancer. I have watched many educational videos of the procedure and I know what to expect for the procedure. However, I have noticed that there are differences in the sedatives used and the way patients are draped during the colonoscopy. My questions are as follows:
1. Do most GI doctors provide colonoscopy shorts, for patients with modesty concerns? If the facility does not have the shorts available, do they allow patients to provide their own shorts?
2. Can pain medications like fentenal, demerol and valium be used effectively without the use of Versed.
3. Also, is a digital rectal exam commonly performed prior to a colonoscopy.
Thank you,
Scott
