Are Cold Medications Advisable For An Infant?

Hi doctor my baby is 3 and 1/2 months old . For past 2 days he is suffering from stuffy nose and conjetion and a little bit of cough. Ped suggested MAXTRA oral drops and KUFRIL LS oral drops 3 times 8 drops a day. Is it safe to use medication for cold at this age.... Thanks in advance.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query your infant has symptoms of stuffy nose and congestion and a little bit of cough which is due to viral infection or upper respiratory tract infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit pediatrician once and get it examined if symptoms keeps on persisting. You should go for blood test and sputum test as well to find out proper diagnosis and start treatment accordingly. Albuterol is a safe medication and it can be given to your child. You have to monitor dose and give it after every 6 hrly. Along with that you have to give tepid cold sponging to your child. You should not give cold carbonated beverages to child and any outside food.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
