Are Anti Depressants Advisable For Anxiety Attacks And Depression?

My son 26 years exp anxiety attacks and depression after his girlfriend of 10 years left him. He went for counselling and they gave him anti depressant even before therapy starts or they heard his whole story.I thought that was it too quick and worry about its side effects.He sleeps whole day now.

You have not mentioned which medicines he is taking. He is suffering from acute anxiety and depression because break up with his girlfriend. So he needs proper treatment. It will take time to totally recover from the situation. Anti – depressant will help him to recover faster. Most of these medicines are sedative and sleep – inducing. He will completely recover from sleepiness after stopping these drugs. So let him to use these drugs under full medical supervision for short term only as continuous use for long time will cause addiction. Family support is also needed in such cases. Keep in touch with his counselor.
