Are Abdominal Spasms And Shortness Of Breath Symptoms Of GERD?

I have had what I thought were hiccups since February. Recently a lung specialist said they are not hiccups...but stomach spasms. Complications are when lover stomach spasms....have trouble breathing normally.....continue to inhale short gasps of breath. Have had five epsidoes where cannot exhale....upper chest got very tight...was frightened....finally it broke and I had a long exhalation. Was taken to ER and put on GERD meds....seems to help but not entirely. Do I have GERD? some other problem? Have cut out caffeine and now limiting chocolate....so confused about what it is and what to do avout it? Can you help? YYYY@YYYY

Understanding your concern. As per your query you are wondering if abdominal spasms and shortness of breath symptoms of GERD. The symptoms you mention in query can occur due to GERD in its severe form , but there can be other reasons also for symptoms you mention in query like asthma , heart attack , anemia or obesity. I would suggest you to consult cardiologist also to rule out more serious condition . Doctor may order certain tests like troponin t , ECG and complete blood profile . Doctor may also refer you to allergy specialist for asthma . For now avoid eating heavy and spicy speciallly at night , keep your head elevated while sleeping , take benadryl twice a day , take antacid after every meal and take proper rest .
