Are Statin Drugs Safe To Use?

My Dr. just put me on 80 mg of Atorvastatin and I'm NOT very happy about it....EVERYTHING I have read about Statin drugs is BAD!! Toxic, poison. One time long ago, I remember on the program THE DR's they had a specialist on and he even said NO ONE should be put on Statin drugs......Also I read that if you are taking them, you need to be on C0q10....she never prescribed those to me and never said a word about them....should I start taking these on my own??

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
Statins are group of drug which lower cholesterol by inhibiting its synthesis. They are recommended in people with high cholesterol & have been found to reduce cardiovascular disease and mortality in those ones.
Yes statins have certain side effects. Therefore doctor recommend people to try lifestyle modification such as a cholesterol-lowering diet and physical exercise, before statin use.

You must have a very high cholesterol level, therefore your doctor have prescribed you such a high dose of atorvastatin. You should reduce cholesterol in diet & increase fibers in diet. Regular walk or exercise is highly recommended. With reduction in cholesterol your dose of statin will be reduced by your physician

Refer to your physician

Hope this information helps
