Are Macalvit Plus, Bevon And Ferronia Xt Safe For Children? Do They Improve Immunity And Growth?

My son is 4years of age. His haemoglobin two months back was 11.2. The paedetrician prescribed Macalvit plus, Bevon and Ferronia xt for him to be taken for 4 months. Are these syrups safe for him or there is any side effect of them? And do these syrups help to improve immunisation also? And should we rely on these multi vitamins syrups for child growth or not?

Hello and Welcome to 'Ask a Doctor'service.

Thanks for your question and here is my advice. Well, all 3 syrups are safe. Ferrium is an iron syrup which can cause black stools, mild acidity and stomach pain, and constipation. Give it in day time after one hour of food. It has minimum problems then. Bevon will cause yellow urine. nothing else and mulivitamins provide essential micronutrients and hence help body and also immunity to certain extent. Calcium to be given twice a day and not with iron. It helps for bones. Growing children require these as their needs are more. Kindly continue with all 3.
