General & Family Physician 's  Response
HIV screening is done by ELISA test and confirmation is done by Western blot test. HIV test reactivity depends upon development of antibodies against HIV. Sometime it develops early, but sometimes it takes time to develop. Post exposure testing is done initially and at six weeks, three months, and six months. After six months, if it still comes non – reactive then you will be declared HIV negative. Modern HIV test is very accurate. A single screening test is correct more than 99% of the time. You test is negative even after 11 months so there is no need to worry. You do not have HIV infection. There is no need for further investigation. But be careful in future. Use protection during sex with unfaithful partner.
