These are hormonal preparations used for various clinical conditions including prevention of pregnancy, abnormal bleeding, etc. On long term basis they are known to cause a number of serious adverse effects like thrombosis (clot formation in the veins of the legs), salt and water retention (oedema & weight gain) and increase in BP. In view of the above adverse effects it is not advisable to take these medications in presence of hypertension and high cholesterol even though they are well controlled. Hope this answers your query.
