Aphthous ulcers?

hello, i'm a medical student myself. 2nd yr of medicine in india.I'm a 20 yr old girl. n from the past 3-4 months i am getting recurrent ulcers in my oral cavity n mostly in my throat, the soft pallate area.I wish to knw the reason for the recurrence as i could not find any specific etiology for the same in my books.I know they are called as 'aphthous' ulcers but the symptom free period has decreased to about 2 weeks now. i wanted to know what precautions should i take to avoid them from occurring again and again. thank you so much.

Apthous ulcers are of three types: Minor (Mikulicz), Major (Sutton's) and Herpetiform (viral/clustered/snail-track ulcers).
Causes include stress, acidity, acid reflux, trauma, food allergies, certain foods (citrus, milk), Vitamin deficiency (esp. B complex), Iron, Folic acid, Zinc deficiency. Rarely hormonal changes may have a link. Even rarer is lupus and Behcet's Syndrome. Have you changed any food/ cooking oil or new toothpaste?
Local treatment includes liquid Glycerin IP or commercially available ointments like Zytee, Smyle, Orasep, 5% amlexanox (Lexanox) and others.
A mouthwash may be used. The above deficiencies must be corrected. Acid reflux must be controlled, if present. You may also try Tab. Rebagen (rebamipide) 100 mg t.d.s. for a week.
