Hi I recently went to the beach and got sun burnt on my face. Now I know that my skin will go back to normal eventually. I'm black and I look really sick because my skin is darker than usuall. Is there any way to speed up the process? Please and thank you
Acute sunburn can be very painful and discomforting.
If I was the treating doctor I would suggest you to take a short course of an oral steroids. Oral steroids are rapidly acting and immediately bring down the sweeling and discomfort.
In addition to that you could use topical moderately potent topical steroid e.g fluticasone propionate cream, twice daily for a week.
An OTC pain killer/anti-inflammatory e.g ibuprofen or aspirin can be taken twice or thrice daily to relieve the pain and discomfort.
Always use a broad spectrum sunscreen, throughout the day.
regards
