Hello and thank you for visiting our site.

Hypothyroidism is very common and more common among women. It is a common complication of pregnancy and its treatment is important in terms of fetal development. TSH and free thyroid hormone levels are typically checked every 4-6 weeks during the pregnancy because the needs for thyroid hormone medication change throughout the pregnancy. First, you should be on the same dose daily, NOT with different doses on the weekend. This makes no sense at all. Second, a TSH of 17 indicates that you are undertreated and you may need to be on a dose of 150-175 DAILY. I would talk to your doctor about a change in dose and the timing of the next blood draw for repeat TSH levels. Finally, this blood draw should include TSH and free thyroid hormone levels to be most accurate. It is unlikely that your child has suffered any detectably harm.

I hope that this helps and good luck!
