Anti Rabies Vaccine During Pregnancy, Please Suggest

hi there..im 6 weeks pregnant..last night i was playing with my 3 month old puppy in my room when he accidentally bit me in the head..it bleeded...i went to the clinic right away to have an anti rabies vaccine..the doctor said it may pose risk to my baby but i still need to get vaccinated because rabies is deadly..my dog hasn t been vaccinated with anti rabies...i am so worried now..will it affect my baby..? i will be having my next anti rabies shot on the 3rd day..please help, im so worried...

welcome to the HealthCareMagic.com forum.As the bite you sustained is class 2/3 you will have to take the rabies vaccination as per schedule as Rabies can prove to be fatal during pregnancy.All theBest.

hi, rabies vaccine can be given to a pregenant lady.
"No cases of harm attributable to use of this vaccine during pregnancy have been observed to date in mothers or children.
It is not known whether Rabipur passes into breast milk.
No risk to the breast-feeding infant has been described to date." This is from the literature of Rabipur

Yes, You definitely needs to be protected against rabies disease; no fetal abnormalities have been reported with the rabies vaccine. You can even receive routine pre-exposure vaccination against rabies if her risk of exposure is high.

Hello. I am 2 months pregnant. while I am feeding my puppy with bread he accidentally bite my finger very little. it happen today April 13, 2011 .Theres a very little blood coming out. He just vaccinated yesterday April 12, 2011. do I need to undergo rabies vaccination?Is theres no harmful defect for my baby. Thank you.Kim

Hello! to all the doctors who have replied in this post, thank you very much! Me too, I am also very much worried because i was injected with Rabipur and i didn't know that i was pregnant.. its good to know that it has no known side effects to the fetus but im still kinda skeptical because its CATEGORY C in the drug handbook.. hope i'll hear something from you. thankyou so much!
