Anaemia, Myoma Removed, Regular Periods

I am having severe anemia for the third time within 10years. And I mean Hb below 6! I eat normally, I am not vegetarian , my menstrual periods are normal. Although, in 2004 I had a huge myoma removed, everything is ok now in this area. I am desperate, not to say really really afraid of what might be happening to me. Please help! Thank you in advance for your advice. Ariane

Hi,
Thanks for the query.
The possible causes for your anemia are:
- Though you are taking normal food, that may not be containing iron rich contents.
So increase intake of iron rich foods.
-You have to take iron supplements as advised by the doctor. If you stop taking tablets after some improvement, the levels can decrease again.
-Worm infestation of the gut, hemorrhoids etc can lead to constant blood loss and anemia.
-General illnesses like hypothyroidism, coagulation abnormalities etc can make the person prone for anemia.
So, consult physician get examined and go for investigations like complete blood picture, coagulation profile, thyroid profile, stool examination etc.
Possibly by these investigations the cause for your problem can be identified and treated.
Take care.
