Am Pregnant. Ultrasound Shows An Amniotic Band. Limbs Moving Freely. Problem?

Today I went for an ultrasound and I'm 13 weeks. She said everything looked fine with the baby but I have an amniotic band. She said that the limbs were moving freely and not to worry. I researched what an amniotic band was and now I am worried that it could cause major problems. Should I have more ultrasounds than usual now to check on things and is there anything they can do to prevent damage to the baby?

Hi,
Detection of an amniotic band on an ultrasound screen is not so easy. You are right in saying that they can cause complications in the fetus and also can cause abortions and preterm labors. 3D ultrasound and MRI should be done to assess the extent of the band/s and the treatment needed. Fetal surgery can be done in utero if there is a limb that needs to be salvaged in addition to involvement of the umbilical cord and the vital organs. For the rest, treatment can be after birth. Hope your query has been answered. Wish you safe motherhood.
