Am I At A Risk Of Infection With Haemachromotosis When On Gentamicin?

I have haemachromotosis and have had 3 episodes of UTI's in the last 9 months with bacteria of proteus mirabilis
I have been given a stat dose of gentamicin IV and now on oral AB'S ceflexin QID
Am I at more risk of infection because of the HH
My transferring saturation is also raising now 68
I am a female aged 53

I am so sorry to hear about this recurrent urinary tract infection. It would be very important that your doctors look beyond treating the infections to identifying the various predisposing factors that make you to have repeated infections like bladder stones, urine stagnation, etc. You are not at any increased risk of infection because of gentamycin.


Please, follow up with a hepatologist to evaluate and manage you appropriately for this this HH. It is important to start treatment early rather than wait for complications to set in.
