Addition To Some Form Of Synthetic Weed. How To Get Rid Off It?

Hi, I have a very close friend, who I just learned recently that he has an addiction to some form of synthetic weed. I am not sure what it is he is smoking exactly, but I know it has become very bad for him. He wants to quit, but feels overpowered by the addiction, and fears the horrible withdrawals. I have been searching online for possibly a name of a medication or a detox medication that could help ease the symptoms of the withdrawals so that he can bring himself to quit the drug entirely, He can t afford a rehab program, so I am hoping to find a solution for him, Are there any over the counter meds that can help to detox his body?

Psychiatrist 's  Response
Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

I appreciate your concern for your friend. But it is not possible to suggest any treatment without knowing exactly what the substance of abuse is. The nature and severity of the withdrawal symptoms also depend on the kind of substance.

I would suggest that you advise your friend to see a doctor for a proper evaluation and further treatment. Since you say that he feels overpowered by his addiction, he would need professional help to get out of it. It may not be necessary to have an in-patient rehab program; for mild cases of addiction, out-patient treatment can be effective. But it is important that your friend is motivated and co-operative for treatment.

Wish you all the best.
