Addicted To Smoking Marijuana And Tobacco. Reaction In The Body By Smoking This?

Hi there, my friend has been smoking marijuana and tobacco together through a bong and is not concerned about the effects. I know it is bad, and I have been trying to convince him to quit due to the effects, but I am not sure the actual negative effects of it. He s been doing it for almost a year and I am so scared for him. Could you please just inform me of what is happening to his body through smoking these. Thank you.

Psychiatrist 's  Response

Hello and welcome to Healthcare Magic. Thanks for your query.

Smoking, in any form, can result in a wide range of adverse effects like lung problems, increased risk for cancers, increased risk for heart attack or stroke, etc. etc. Marijuana is a psychoactive substance, which by itself produces significant psychological effects by acting on the brain. Hence, marijuana abuse by itself has been associated with a variety of psychiatric disorders like anxiety, panic attacks, agitation, psychosis, mood instability, etc.

So, I would suggest that you advise your friend about these multiple problems and motivate him to quit. If needed, he should not hesitate to seek professional help for giving up these habits.

Wish you all the best.
