Addicted To Pain Medications For Blown Disks Out Of Back Due To Accident. Advise To Be Off Medications Without Withdrawal Symptoms?

I was involved in a bad car accident December of 2010. I was at a stop light and a woman rear ended me doing around 80 to 90 mph and pushed me into a car in front of me. Since then I have been batteling the insurance company to continue paying my bills. Finally on November 4 this year they gave in and are going to pay the rest of my medical bills and I will be able to get my back surgery due to having disks blown out of my back. As a single mom of two the past few years I haven t been able to get the proper care for my back so I have had to rely on taking pain meds like YYYY@YYYY , flexural etc etc to be able to maintain and get through the pain I have been in and have become addicted to them.My goal is when I am able to get my surgery I want to be off all pain meds and get clean. Can you give me some advice on what kind of steps I can take to do this without going through the heavy withdraw?

Hi,

In order to avoid the withdrawal symptoms, the best thing you can do is to gradually taper off your pain medicines. Go slow and allow your body time to adjust to the new dose before reducing further. The slower you do it and the smaller amounts you reduce, the easier it would be. Just see how much time you have before the surgery and taper off accordingly.

Hope this helps you. Best wishes.
