Oxycodone is an opoid analgesic and as you must have noted already by personal experiencing it is both a good pain reliever and same time very addictive as in most analgesics. The majority of opoid analgesics (if not all) are very addictive ones taken for a long period. When I am managing pain, I usually place my patients for short intervals say between 1-2 months with particular analgesics (with close follow-ups to make sure patient's pain is under control) then change after leaving patient for a while without any medications to see if pain reoccurs. There a wide number of analgesics that can help you but all I know and often prescribe are addictive ones the effect is good. Acetaminophen/paracetamol has little addictive effect but usually does not effectively control pain and it is also known for its effect on liver that is why it is better not used for too long. Other good analgesics are codeine, tramadol, NSAIDS (but close monitor for gastric ulcers), morphine and derivatives (very addictive). The truth is ones a medication is effective against a chronic pain, then possibility of addiction is always present. It is best you discuss other options with your doctor.
Hope this helps
