Abdominal Discomfort, Swelling. Ultrasound Shows Fluid In Fallopian Tube. History Of Fibroid. Recommendations?

I had a vaginal ultrasound and it seems that i have fluid in my fallobian tubes. I have abdominal discomfort and swelling but not discharge at this point. i do have an appt. with my gynecologist soon. what can really cause this? last year a had a procedure in my uterus since I was bleeding very heavy during my periods. I also had a fibroid an cyst before this procedure. I am 57 year old. can all this be related?

Hi and thanks for the query,

It is good you have done a n ultrasound already. It would be however too hasty taking a decision at this point in time with a further deep reflection. In my opinion, the nature of this fluid needs to be ascertained. This could be simple fluid or an abscess. Complete blood counts, c reactive protein measures and erythrocyte sedimentation rate could help us know if there is an infection in place or not. The possibility of a ruptured cyst is also to be considered. At times, depending on the clinical appreciation, the ultrasound, which of course is very operator dependent, could be done again to be very sure. Endscopic surgery or open surgery could be last options depending on the case. However, I recommend you have a strict follow up from an experienced gynecologist. Thanks and kind regards.
