83 year old getting bruise and pain in the buttocks after a fall. Need to go to hospital?

Hi, My mom (83 years old) was sitting on a chair in a shower and failed on Thursday 3/14. One side of the buttock is hardened and turned dark. She has complained that it is hurt. I applied ice on her in the first 2 hours of the fall. Now, i apply Salon pas to that area, is it a right thing to do? Should I take her to hospital? Thank you for your help! Vicky

Hi Vicky,
Thanks for writing your query.

First aid you have done i.e. application of ice and pain relieving patch was good.
But your mother now needs a clinical examination and investigations like an X-Ray.

Fracture of femur is commonly seen in old people after a fall.
You should take her to the hospital and get her clinically examined by an Orthopedic surgeon.

There might be a soft tissue injury which will respond to pain killer like Ibuprofen one tablet twice a day after meals along with an antacid like Omeprazole 20 mg. and a muscle relaxant like chloraxazone.

She should have complete bed rest for speedy recovery.
I hope this is helpful to you.
