81 Years. Has NPH. History Of Heart Attack. Advised Implant Of Defibrillator. Recommend

My husband had a heart attack on March 7 2013. He was advised after his check-up that he might need a defibrillator( sp?) implanted. He is 81 years old and also suffers from NPH( normal pressure hydrocefalous( sp?).

His Dr. said he would need to stay in the hospital over night for this procedure. We are not sure whether to do this or not. What do you recommend? We would like the primary care Dr. to advise, but have not seen him yet.

Hi welcome to Health care magic forum.
Thanks for calling H.C.M.Forum.
As you describe the patient is of 81 years age, and a case of heart attack, He is advised to have a defibrillator as he has developed fibrillation. As you are fearing if there are any side effects of defibrillator they will be less than those of fibrellation, which are bother some and will be increasing.
Still if you have any doubt You can ask his doctor , more over as it is a matter of one day it is not a combersome also. You can ask for a post pone ment for few days till your G.P. returns, and have it, it is an alternative.
Wishing for a quick and complete recovery.
Best regards.
