Hi
Thank you for your query
The commonest cause of constipation in this age group is dietary. Try to increase fluids in his diet. Add lots of sugar to his milk. Avoid refined flour and other constipating food items. Add roughage in diet (green leafy vegetables, fruits etc). Give him a teaspoon of honey everyday. The second cause may be due to a fissure (crack near his anal opening). It can be diagnosed by a pediatric surgeon once he sees your child. He would require stool softeners for the same and Sitz bath will be helpful (making the child sit in a tub of luke warm water for 10-15 minutes for 3-4 times a day). Reduced thyroid function can also cause constipation. Be wary especially if you yourself have any such history. Lastly a disease called Hirschsprung's disease may be the cause. Try to remember whether the constipation is since birth or is a recent event. Consult a pediatric surgeon and he should guide you well
Hope that helps

Hi
Thanks for your query.
Causes of constipation is mostly dietary,Hypothyroidism needs to be ruled out.
I advise you to give him plenty of fluids, give him glucose water 3 to 4 times a day, give mashed boiled green leafy vegetables, fruit,
Laxatives are to be given for short time only,
Get him examined by pediatrician to rule out other causes as well.

Your baby will be fine

Hello I have gone through your complaints. As this complaints started after introduction of solid foods , it is mostly associated with it. If your doesn't have this problem since birth then there is no need to check for thyroid status. You need to give more mashed diet which is semi solid in nature, water has to be given excessively along with food. Fruits needs to be added to the regular diet. When ever you start a new dietary item to your child, the child needs time to adjust. You can observe your child by making the above changes for few more days and follow your doctor advice.
Thank you. Good day
