77 Year Old, Having Inguinal Hernia, Want To Go For Surgery. Open Or Laparoscopic?

Hello Doctor, My father age 77 years having inguinal hernia . I would like to know if at this age will doctor recommended to go for a surgery. If yes: 1)which surgery is recmmended- Open or Laproscopic 2) how many days my father need to be in hospital after the surgery 3) how many weeks of bed rest after discharge of hospital. Laparoscopic will be well tolerated (less pain and quicker recovery)
Typically it is oupatient surgery - home the same day
Bed rest for 1-2 days then normal activity.
