76 Years. Prescribed Armour Thyroid Based On TSH Test. No Symptoms. On Cosopt For Controlled Glaucoma. Healthy Lifestyle. Opinion?

Based on a recent TSH test, my ob/gyn ordered Armour thyroid 1/2 grain daily with 6 refills - I am 76 and take no medications except cosopt for controlled glaucoma - I have no symptoms to warrant taking Armour thyroid - I had no complaints on my recent physical - sleep well, under weight for my 5'4 in. small frame (112 lbs). I am going to call her and talk to her about the RX - what is your opinion based on TSH test only ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, armour thyroid is a strong preparation, and if your doctor feels it is necessory, you should use it compulsorily. Most of the hypothyroid cases are symptom less, so usually it is diagnosed during investigations only. If your doctor says it should be used dont neglect it. Thank you.
