7 Month Old Has GERD, On Ranitidine. Has Mild Cough And Sneezing, Congested. Treatment ?

My 7 month old has GERD and is on ranitidine. Last night I feed her at 2am. I held her after feeding her for 10minutes. She started waking up crying, passing gas and cough/gag all at the same time. She vomited a lot with lots of gagging. After vomiting she sounded congested. She was playful a few minutes later. She does have mild cough and sneezing. She had a flu vaccine on march 8. What is her diagnosis ? Treatment?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

As your child is having GERD, the cough is due to reflux followed by vomiting might have resulted in regurgitation of feeds into pharynx and nasal airways which caused mild throat infection and irritation.

Continue ranitidine as advised for GERD.

Child should be observed for increased respiratory rate to look for any aspiration of feeds into lungs.

For cough you can give a cough drops containing mucolytic agent like ambroxol in prescribed dose.

If there is nose block, you can instill saline nasal drops into nostrils.

I advise you to consult pediatrician for the examination of the child and for prescription of medication.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
