54 Yr Old, Hard Small Lump On Tongue, No Pain. What Is It ?

Hello Doctor, My mother, she s 54 yrs old has been noticing a hard small lump on her tongue since exactly one month. For the last one month it was non-reducing and since last 3 days she feels it has reduced from its initial 1 cm size. There is no bleeding except one day when she rigorously cleaned her tongue with a tongue cleaner . She complains of no pain usually, and little pain when the lump is touched. There is not much discoloration its slightly transparent white over it. Kindly advice.

hi there, you should not neglect this lump and it would be a better thing to do to take her to your local doctor and if required get a fine needle aspiration cytology done to know the nature of the lump and if required to get it resected. It could be a benign condition but malignancy cannot be ruled out without an FNA study. Take care.
