5 Year Old Gasping For Air While Eating And Drinking. Does It Need Medical Evaluation?
My 5 year old daughter, for as long as i can remember has gasped for air while she is eatting and after drinking. When i ask her if she can breath through her nose while eatting she says no. My younger daughter of 3 years doesn t have this problem. I wasn t sure if its something she hasn t learned to do naturally or if its maybe there s medical explanation.

Some times in the posterior nasal airways may be small and called choanal stenosis or atresia.If atresia is unilateral or bilateral choanal stenosis is there during normal time there will be no difficulty in breathing but during swallowing food or water they may feel difficult breathing. So consult ENT Specialist for the examination of nasal airways and the throat

Hi,
yes you have to get her evaluated for nasal block,nasalseptum,etc.
Take her to ENT doctor.
when mouth is closed during feeds she gets problem if nose is also blocked!!!
