42 Yr Old, Having Acne, Large Pores, Pits. Solution?

I m 42 years old, have had moderate to severe acne at times since I was 13yrs old. There was a period of time in my mid 20 s that my acne was pretty mild, but didn t last more than a couple of yrs & it s now back to stay it looks like. I use products to dry it up, but now at 42, am also battling aging issues- which I also treat but it s hard to balance. What bothers me the most are my large pores, and even worse my recently acquired pits- one or two on my cheek, one on the bridge of my nose , on my chin & jaw line. Can Anything be done? A cosmetic procedure or something? ANYTHING? And how much do you think it would benefit my complexion to drink at least the required daily amount of water every day?

Hi,
Thanks for writing to us.
You seem to be having three issues acne, scars and open pores.
Firstly treatment for acne should be started. This can be taken in form of oral azithromycin/ doxycycline/ minocycline/ isotretinoin. In your age cause is mostly hormonal so intake of oral contraceptives would help too. Also topical drugs like clindamycin, adapalene and benzoyl peroxide gel would help treat acne. Few sessions of chemical peels would help in decreasing acne, minimise pores and reduce scars if these are shallow. Also sessions of dermarollers or microdermabrasion or lasers would reduce pores and scars to some extent. Scars can be treated with acne surgery like subscision or CROSS Technique. I would advise that you meet a qualified dermatologist , so that a customised treatment plan can be suggested to you.
Hope that helped
