3 Year Old With Fever, Chills, Runny Nose And Cough. Appetite Loss. Need To Go To The Doctor?

My 3 year old daughter has chills, fever , runny nose and cough . Cough has been about a week but the chills and fever started yesterday. She doesn t have much of an appetite and is not as active as usual. Is this something that needs to go to the Emergency room? Also, I have an 11 month old daughter who has a cough for 3 weeks. It seems like it became a wet cough. She doesn t have a fever and has a good appetite and active as usual.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,
Thank you for your query,
Your child seemd to have a upper respiratory tract infection could be a viral or bacterial.
Give Tylenol for fever every 6 th hourly depending on the presence of fever and if there is high grade fever you do tepid sponging with lukewarm water after Tylenol.
Give plenty of oral fluids to maintain hydration.
Consult your Pediatrician in the morning as early as possible for the examination to detect the focus of infection and for the specific treatment.
For your younger daughter for cough you can give mucolytic cough drops in prescribed dosage after consulting your doctor.
Hope i have answered your query.
