2 Year Old With Vomiting At Night. Is This Serious?

Just this week my two year old started to vomit while cough. It started Tuesday while he was asleep, cough but no vomit on Wednesday, and now Thursday he has coughed and threw up four times. We did get in to see the doctor today she said everything looked good maybe he was getting a cold but, I wonder what is a reasonable amount of time before we start to consider something serious and what to do while we wait for it to pass?

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi,

Thank you for your query on Healthcare Magic.

Vomitings after cough is common in children and these are called posttussive vomitings.

If the cough is treated with medication the vomitings will subside.

Vomiting after cough is not a worrying thing.

If the vomitings are large and frequent, there are chances of getting dehydration.

So monitor for his hydration and give sips of oral rehydration fluids like Pedialyte to prevent dehydration.

Continue the medication as advised by your Pediatrician.

Hope I have answered your query.

Regards.
