2 Weeks Old, Fever. Diarrhea Positive. Walamycin, Lacto Car-b Prescribed. Advise?

Hi Doc,

My Son is 2 weeks old. From past few days he had fever and watery stool (With that gas comes out or vise versa). Doc asked me to get the stool tested. In that 2 things came out of safety zone pus cells 4~5 per hpf and
epithelial cells 2~3 hpf. Doc said its diarrhea and gave him one antibiotic and one other medicine i.e. Walamycin and lacto car-B. I would like to understand what can be the cause of this diarrhea also what are the preventions we can follow so that this will not happen again.

My Son is completely on breastfeed and we are not giving him anything else as doc said its not required.

Thanks in advance.

Pediatrician 's  Response
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
It is great that your baby is exclusively breast fed.
It is very rare that exclusively breast fed babies having infective diarrhea.
Relax, continue with medication as advised and continue feeding more frequently.
so as to maintain hydration.
Watch for any feature of dehydration as lethargy/decreased urine output and in case you observe any get him re evaluated by pediatrician.

Wishing your baby good health.
God bless..
