19 Year Old Paraplegic Having Frequent UTIs, Pressure Sores And Loss Of Kidney Function. Severe Fatigue And Headaches. Advice?

My 19yr old daughter became a paraplegic 4 yrs ago as a result of a car accident, though she has adjusted well, she has fought plenty of UTI's & pressure sores and just recently lost all function to right kidney with no reason to be found. Her left kidney is still fully functioning but so wasn't her right just 5 months ago. She now experience's headaches & fatigue....... We are both working on her drinking & eating habits but wonder what else we can do so we are not living our lives based on bi-weekly urine samples? This has really scared us & i ask you what can we do to have a better outlook to this?

Radiologist 's  Response
Hello,
Its unfortunate that your 19 years old daughter is paraplegic and has lost complete function in one kidney, the left kidney however remaining fully functional.

UTIs a dreaded complications in paralplegic patients. Some times, this urinary tract infection can ascend into the kidney and affect its functioning. This might have happend with the right kidney but still needs confirmation.

If there have been multiple UTIs affecting your daughter in last 4 years, then the regular urine tests might be necessary for the time being.

I know that you are doing everything possible to keep things under control.
Please have a detailed discussion with the urologist regarding the further points to be kept in mind as a care giver.
