13 Month Child Unable To Swallow Solid Food. On Breast Feed, Puree Food. Suggestions?
hi there, i was wanting to know why my 12 month nearly 13 month old wont swallow his food, he still breastfeeds and is fine with pureed food but when it comes to table food he will pick it up put in his mouth and chew but then stops....he wll keep it in his mouth and try and put more food in there but when he cant fit any more in there he will hold it in his mouth for hours until i can pull it out his mouth.....can you please help!?
Hi
Thank you for your query
Since your child is able to swallow pureed foods, he should not have any swallowing problems. But some times the motility of the food pipe that is the esophagus may not be right and can cause such problems. At times, even gastro-esophageal reflux i.e contents of stomach regurgitating into the esophagus may cause such symptoms. You should consult a pediatrician or a pediatric surgeon once to rule out any problems. It would be helpful if you can provide more information regarding the birth history of your child, whether he was born on time or was he early. Also where there any problems around delivery. These too can have an impact. Finally it might still turn out to be nothing and your son may not just be liking certain foods. That should improve with time
Hope that helps
God bless you
