12 Yr old, having sore knee, lethargy, irregular sleep. Reason?

My daughter, age 12 has been complaining of a sore knee for two weeks. She called from school this morning saying her knee is now throbbing. She has also been extremely tired, lethargic, low energy. For example, this weekend slept 10 hours Friday night and took a 1 hour nap on Saturday, and slept 11 hours Saturday night and took a 2 hour nap on Sunday. Does not have the energy to do anything except lay around the house. Not her normal perky self. Called her pediatrician and scheduled an appt. for later this week. Could this be thryoid related? I should add, she has not injured her knee or played any sports since complaining of her knee pain .

We understand your concerns

I went through your desription. You already took an appointment with a paediatrician. Nothing to worry regarding thyroid problem. You did not mention about her general attitude an general body condition.

Now a days school children do complaint of pains in so many places around body because some other reasons like peer or teacher pressure etc. A kid with healthy body and healthy life style can become lethargic due to psychological causes and vice versa. You should interview her for such problems in detail.

For now, wait for visit to paediatrician. Then paediatrician should be able to conclude what the correct diagnosis is. Keep her food rich in iron and minerals and proteins.

How I could clear your doubt partially. Available for further queries.
Good luck.
