11 Yr Old Has An Accessory Navicular Bone, Pain After Out Of Boot. Can That Be Nerve Related ?

My daughter is 11. She has an accessory navicular bone . We tried a boot for 3 weeks but when she did not have it on the pain was just as bad. She is out of the boot now and in a lot of pain. Her bone is very sensitive to the touch. Just brushing over it makes her jump and be in pain. Can that be nerve related? She is very involved in sports. Will she cause further damage if we wait until the summer for surgery?

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hello.
Thanks for writing to us.
The pain your daughter is having is likely to be due to the inflammation related to the accessory bone. Nerve damage or any permanent damage is not likely if you wait for surgery for next 4-5 months. Regular pain killers are needed for symptomatic relief.
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.
