Question: Hi I had to take norlevo as I had a bit of a stomach upset and was worried my contraceptive pill would be less effective. I took norlevo this afternoon and then about 1.5 or 2 hours later I had half a glass of wine with dinner. Would the glass of wine reduce the effectiveness of norlevo?

Brief Answer:
Norlevo is still effective.

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for consulting us.
Efficacy of morning after pill is not reduced by taking alcohol, But because taking alcohol may make it harder to make good decisions about sex, drinking too much can put you in a situation where you may be more likely to need emergency contraception. As, it will cover only one incident of intercourse for which it was taken within 72 hours. Other incidents of intercourse will go uncovered & may result in an unwanted pregnancy.
Some degree of stomach upset or diarrhea may occur after the pill but if you have had vomiting within 2 hours of intake you should repeat the pill. Otherwise, it will continue to work.
If properly taken it is effective in preventing 86 % of expected pregnancies & not effective in 100% cases!
These are some hard facts. If you need some more details please write back.
Wish you good luck.
Take care.
